Things to do in Dorset

Knoll House is perfectly placed for things to do in Dorset, including historical places and gardens to visit, and family days out.

You are surrounded by an abundance of beaches including our local beach Studland, walks both coastal and country, and activities like  golfing, sailing and horse riding.

Poole harbour, Lulworth Cove and the World Heritage Jurassic coast are all within easy reach.

Beaches

Studland beach below us is owned by The National Trust, and one of the best in Europe, with clean sand and safe bathing. Other favourite beaches in this part of Dorset, include Shell beach, looking out over Poole harbour, a great place for watching arriving and departing ships. Lulworth cove, a sheltered pebble beach in a horse shoe shaped cove, and Swanage, a Victorian seaside resort with a calm and sandy beach.

Walks

A network of paths providing easy access for explorers of all ages surround Knoll House, and there are lots of walks to take in the breathtaking Jurassic coastal views. The South West Coastal Path, and National Trust, have locally signposted walks exploring miles of coastal and inland trails.

Family

Out and about, nearby Dorset family attractions definitely worth visiting are The Tank Museum, Monkey World, and Bournemouth Aquarium. And for a heritage steam train ride Swanage Railway.

Historic Places

On our doorstep Corfe Castle dominates the local Purbeck landscape. It has been a Saxon stronghold, Norman fortress and a royal palace, and is a fantastic and informative day out for all the family. Lulworth Castle, restored in partnership with English Heritage, was built in the 17th century, and in addition to the castle, has extensive parkland, woodland walks and a children's playground. Combine a visit to the estate  grounds with a visit to Lulworth Cove.
