Cycling

Rolling through forests, past castles and along the coast, cycling in Dorset is a wonderful way to explore the area.

There’s nothing quite like a cycle ride through the Dorset countryside. With plenty of on- and off-road routes around Purbeck and further afield, Studland is a great base for your cycling holiday.

Pedal around Purbeck

For avid cyclists keen to explore the Isle of Purbeck by bike, Dorset Council has put together a leaflet Pedal around Purbeck. This leaflet shows six Dorset cycle routes, from eight to 47 miles long, with a map, tips and safety information, as well as contact details for bike shops and cycle clubs.

Cycle Swanage

The Virtual Swanage website features a whole section on cycling in Dorset, with cycle routes ranging from five to 50 miles, both on and off road. The step-by-step directions begin in Swanage, so it’s easiest to view the map of the route and plan your own journey.

Purbeck Cycle Hire

If you haven’t brought your bike with you but still want to go for a cycle, Cyclexperience offer everything from children's bikes to electric bikes, helmets, puncture repair kits and route maps. The shop is based at Corfe Castle, just a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Their website also features maps for one-to six-hour cycle trails, including off-road tracks through forests and nature reserves.

Poole

A short ferry trip away, Poole is a great place for cycling in Dorset. The area features cycle routes for all abilities, through green and wooded areas and along the seafront and promenade. You can find details and routes on the Poole Tourism website.
